An impressive beginning . . . Since its beginning 1971, Janosik has made six trips to Poland, gained many prizes, medals, honors and, most importantly, friends.
Following is a timeline of just a few of the many performances.
1972 July. Nine months afters its founding, Janosik made its first trip to Poland to the II Swiatowy Festiwal Polonijnych Zespolów Artystycznych in Rzeszów and received an award for Best American Group.

Summer III Swiatowego Festiwalu Zespolów Polonijnych they placed third among 29 ensembles in Rzeszów, Poland
1975 While Dr. Leyton was on a trip to Warsaw, Janosik was honored with the prestigious Oskar Kolberg Medal of Ethnography for authenticity.

1991 April. Benefit Concert, Germantown Friends School, Philadelphia

1993 August. Janosik receives invitation from the mayor of Torun, one of Philadelphia's Sister Cities, to be guests of the group, Zespól Piesni i Tanca Toruniacy and participate with them in the Folkloric Group Festival of the Baltic Nations in and around Gdansk. Toruniacy members graciously shared their homes with Janosik individuals an they did joint performances in northern cities, including Torun, Gdansk, Sopot. This was truly a unique experience.
1994 Polish Folk Dance Association of the Americas regional concert, Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, New York
1995 JuneJuly. Mayor Ed Rendell reciprocated the invitation to Toruniacy to come to Philadelphia. And came they did with Janosik as their hosts. While in the Philadelphia area, under the direction of Maciej Pasternak, Toruniacy performed many concerts including Phildelphias Welcome America! celebration with Janosik. Janosik also housed and entertained them. A major undertaking for Janosik but was worth every effort for their talented and good friends.
